How to get the most from a boudoir photography shoot

How to get the most from a boudoir photography shoot

There is nothing quite like the sexy, smouldering feel that a boudoir photography shoot can bring. Not only is it a great way to boost your confidence, but these shoots are also a wonderful gift to give to a partner. Or simply just to have as a treat for yourself.

The only thing about signing up for one of these shoots is that you might feel some nerves and anxiety about it. Particularly if you feel nervous about being almost naked with a stranger.

To help you to battle through those nerves and really get the most of a boudoir photography shoot we have put together some of our top tips for you to try out.

1 – Pick someone you trust

When it comes to having a boudoir photography session done, you are going to want to feel comfortable with the person taking the photos. Make sure that you meet them beforehand as t his will help to ensure that you feel a little more relaxed and only ever book in with someone that you are happy to be almost naked in front of.

2 – Try on all your outfits before your shoot

The last thing that you are going to want is to have an exact outfit in mind for your photos, only to find that they simply do not fit you, or look the way you hoped on the day. Make time to try on all your outfits that you have, that way you can be sure that you feel 100% in them.

3 – Have backups

Whilst you may think that you have all the basics covered, things can go wrong during a photoshoot. Which means that you are going to need to plan for this. Have spares of some of those items that could break such as tights or stockings and also have a couple of back up outfits or sets just in case there is a need for them.

4 – Wear something comfortable to the shoot

Seeing as you are going to be spending some time in your underwear posing, often in ways that are unnatural to you, it makes sense that you have something comfy to wear there and back from the shoot. This will help you to relax and will give your body a bit of a rest after having to wear things that might not be the most comfortable.

5 – Think about your cycle

The last thing that you are going to want to do is to pay out for a boudoir session and then find that you are bloated, with bad skin and plagued with cramps. It makes sense instead to aim for a photoshoot a week or so after your period. That way you will be returning to normal and will look your best.

6 – Never ever fake tan

It is commonplace that people think that in order to look their best, they need a tan. Whilst this is great if you are planning a photography shoot during the summer when you can top up your tan, this isn’t so great for the winter. A top tip is to never ever fake tan. Not only can pale and interesting look beautiful for a photo shoot, but if you have streaks, splotches and patches then these are not going to look great on camera and can even lead to you having to pay out for retouching fees on your images too.

7 – Keep up with your water intake

You should never underestimate the power of water. Water has a real positive impact on your body as a whole and it is something that you should be indulging in on a daily basis. Keep up your water intake when you book in for a photography session. Not only will this help to keep your skin looking glowing, but also it can help with bloating too.

8 – Consider your body when choosing clothes

We all know how it feels to see an outfit on someone else looking great, only to find that it doesn’t look quite as good on us. Everyone has a different body type, which means that clothes (and underwear) look different on us all. Consider your own body shape when planning outfits, rather than things that you like the look of on other people, or that you think that other people will like. That way you can be sure that you are wearing something that will suit you.

9 – Top up your hair and nails

Whilst booking in for a spot of fake tan isn’t a good idea, the same cannot be said for your nails and hair. Plan to top up your hair colour and nails (if you have these done) the week leading up to the shoot. That way you can be sure that even the smallest touches are in place and there to make sure that you look beautiful.

10 – Relax and have fun

One of the best ways to make sure that your photos look perfect is to relax and have fun. You really cannot underestimate the power of the smile. Remember, even when you are having the photography session as a gift for a partner, you are still doing it as a treat to yourself. It is normal to feel nervous about the entire process, but if you let this get on top of you then you could find that you look tense and un-natural in your photos. Which isn’t a good look when you are trying to come across as sexy and alluring.

Feeling better about getting flirty and having some fun during your boudoir shoot? Whilst it is normal to feel a little worried, you should always remind yourself that the person taking the photos is a professional and they want to make sure that you not only look great, but that you feel comfortable too! That way you can really ensure that you capture some great images and have that boost you are searching for.
